Calvary Baptist Church Third Quarter Newsletter, 2023
To God be the glory great things He continues to do. For the past three months (July to September), the Lord has been good to my family and the ministries here in Liberia. To all our prayer partners and supporters, we thank you so much for your continued prayers and financial support. For this quarter, I starter a series of messages on the Gospel of John, emphasizing the key point of John’s message: “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:30-31). The Sunday school lessons during this quarter have been Baptist Beliefs. In a growing charismatic religious setting such as ours, it is always prudent to bring the church back to the basic Bible truths and how the truths can be applied to the life of the typical church member. At Calvary and the fellowships we support, new coverts trusted Christ as Savior, and many are in baptismal and new believers’ classes.
Family News
Our family is faring well. The kids are all doing well in health except Gifty. For the last week in September, Gifty was again taken to the clinic for ulcer treatment and is recovering. During this quarter, Rose’s health is relativity fine as she continues to take her medication. Lord willing, I plan to take her to Accra, Ghana for her treatment following our elections. School opened in September, and all the kids are in school.
Many thanks to the IGM for the assistance given to help with the kids’ schools fees. With the funds sent, we were able to pay fees for some of the kids. According to Dax’s Johnson mother, he has not had sickle cell attack for the last two months. Our elder son, Mac, is still in Kigali, Rwanda, on study leave. We have brought Patrick Talue back to live with us. Please continue to pray for our family.

Calvary Baptist School System
At the Calvary Baptist Church schools, academic activities resumed in September, with an enrollment of 450 students. Due to the difficult economic situation in the country, many of the students were told to come to school without registration and allow their parents to pay fees later.
During the quarter, a one day teachers’ refreshers workshop was held on August 15, 2023 at the school campus in Fimah, Monrovia, in preparation for the opening of school for the 2023/2024 academic year. The workshop was conducted by Mr. John A. Kaska, a Teacher and licensed principal from the New York School district, and Ms. Nellis Regis Darby, school administrator, Director of Literacy, New York City Dept. of Education, and Member, Board of Director, union county schools, New Jersey, USA. The theme for the workshop was Professional Development and BEST Teaching PRACTICES. At the end the workshop, 45 teachers and school administrators received certificates of participation. Meanwhile, the New York school board has agreed to help provide computers for the students in our schools.
Todee School Benches
During this quarter, the men’s department completed 29 of the 50 benches that are being made for the school in Todee. Funds for the benches were raised by the department. Meanwhile, we continue to trust the Lord to provide funding ($4,000.00) for the latrine and the well projects. The estimate cost for the three projects (benches, latrine and well) is USD$6,000.00
