CANADIAN THANKSGIVING, 2020
Greetings to you, my brothers and sister in Christ Jesus, from Nova Scotia! We continue to praise Him all the time for our salvation and all of the freedom that we have in Him. He gives us the peace that passes all understanding. Isn’t that just what we need in these times of trouble, to have this true peace from Him?! We continually thank and praise His name.
Elise showed me a verse in the Bible a little while ago. Job 42:5: I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see you. I will tell you our experience with this verse later, but first, let me tell you what is happening here in West Dover. A few weeks ago a person who lives down the road from us, called me to ask me to visit his mother in palliative care. I went with him for a visit in the hospital. He allowed me to pray with them and to share the gospel message with him. She passed away recently, but I keep in touch with the man. Please pray for God to speak to him and open the eyes of him and his wife. She is related to our grandson, an aunt. We’ve been praying for that family for years and to have God put us living near them will strengthen our relationship with them. We pray that God may give us many opportunities in this fishing community that still does commercial fishing. We have two close neighbours who are slowly realizing that they have a pastor living nearby! I know God put us here to be a witness here for Him.
Now the verse in Job 42:5, says again, I heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see you. It is Canadian Thanksgiving as we write this, and we want to thank God for what He has done in our lives always, but especially what He has done recently. He gave our family three houses for one! The Lord sold our house on Old Halifax Road for a price that we were able to help our two children who were still renting, with down payments to buy their own homes. This way they could stop moving around because of moldy places, etc. It took a year of praying, waiting and trusting God’s promises. If we told you all of the details, you’d be quite amazed! We will tell you a few of them. It is a very tight, sellers market here. There are no houses for sale except what a millionaire can afford so when something reasonable is available, there are too many bids, raising the selling price of the house. The way the Lord gave us two of the houses was that they were not put on the market. Ours was with a realtor that didn’t advertise it properly and it didn’t sell quickly. Each of the houses is perfect for each family: size, in the area needed to live, price – renovations paid for by previous owner…so many details that we can overwhelmingly see the Hand of the Lord working for us! Now you can see how Job 42:5 applies to our family. This is the desire of all Christian parents for their children, to experience God for themselves. A prayer of ours that God is answering. We want everyone to see God working so that He will get the honour and praise always!
So, during this Canadian Thanksgiving time, we share what He has done in the past (similar things bringing us and using us in Nova Scotia), what He is doing now and so that we know that we can trust Him to continue to take care of us and use us in the future.
Psalm 108:3-5
I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations. For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;
